Government mandates type of fuel

I was very surprised to find out that the type of fuel which I can buy is mandated by my county. In effect, my county determines whether or not my car can run at it's maximum efficiency. To be fair, this is done for the purpose of emissions. However, it seems counter productive to restrict residents to purchasing gasoline which is 10% less effective, and only marginally less pollutant (i.e. E10 RFG). This creates a situation where it seems that the resident must use 10% MORE fuel to go the same distance, thus polluting more than if they used straight gasoline. copy this link and paste it into your browser (for some reason blogger says it has illegal characters).
